The Research Technician will assist with routine management of daily operations of a laboratory investigating kidney disease. The Research Technician II will be expected to conduct laboratory experiments involving tissue culture, vertebrate animal research, and patient-derived biospecimens (blood, urine). The position will be responsible for maintaining accurate laboratory records and organization of the laboratory. The position will work with senior scientists to analyze results and prepare reports.

Job Duties
  • Prepares and conducts in vitro experiments that manipulate gene expression using techniques, such as plasmid transfection, mRNA knockdown, CRISPR, qPCR, and Western blotting.
  • Maintains mouse colonies and assists with cross-breeding, genotyping, and generation of genetically engineered mouse models.
  • Assists with rodent survival surgery and processing of mouse tissues for histologic analysis.
  • Processes patient biospecimens (blood, urine) for transcriptomic and proteomic analysis.
  • Documents results of experiments; collects, compiles, and analyzes data; conducts literature searches.
  • Works with spreadsheets, some statistics, and word processing skills.
  • Presents research findings at weekly lab meetings.
  • Plans and schedules various tasks, as well as coordinates procedures with collaborators and other lab members.
  • Assists with lab maintenance: ordering lab supplies and maintaining an organized lab.
  • Develops assays and utilizes developments in translational research projects.
  • Develops projects for grant related basic science activities.
  • Maintains tissue culture incubator.
  • Maintains liquid nitrogen sample storage.
  • Ensures quality of supplies and reagents and compliance with GLP.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a basic science laboratory.
  • Experience with laboratory animals.
  • Experience with statistical analysis programs and Microsoft Excel.
  • Good organization skills, excellent record keeping, attention to details, and the ability to work well with others.
