Job Description:

The Baptist Health Medical Group (BHMG) APC reflects the mission, vision, and values of BHMG adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The APC functions autonomously and collaborates with other health professionals to provide high quality, cost effective care to patients, manages health care systems and influence health care decision-making through expert clinical reasoning, research, theory-based practice. The APC is responsible for providing direct patient care as part of the physician led team in accordance with State Law and approved Medical Staff privileges.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job.  He/she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.

Key Functionality

Call Requirement

  • Phone access only without responsibility to present at the hospital.

  • Phone access with the expectation to present at the hospital for rounding purposes.

  • Phone access with the expectation to present to assist in surgery.

Weekend Requirement

  •  APC will work weekends as required by the business need. 

Location

  • Specialty Care setting with daily management and treatment of patients in conjunction with other providers and clinical staff (primarily outpatient or ambulatory services).

  • Specialty care site (inpatient or outpatient).

  • Specialty/surgical practice if location does not have a physician on-site, requiring the APC to work autonomously.

Duties

  • Helps direct appropriate clinical services, tests, and referrals.

  • Maintains appropriate telephone contact with patients, payers, and pharmacies.

  • Complies with clinical protocols.

  • Performs physical exams

  • Develops treatment plans.

  • Carries their own patient panel and sees new patients.

  • Performs portions of surgical procedures independently (closure, vein harvest, etc.)

  • Performs anesthesia with MD present to supervise.

Productivity Targets

  • Visits/visit volume and wRVU.

  • Productivity is based off of agreed upon FTE.   For example: An APRN with a 0.9 FTE, is required 32 patient contact hours per week.

  • Contact hours are defined as time available for patient care and excludes administrative time, telephone calls, review of lab results, medical record documentation, and call coverage.

  • Complies with BHMG policies, procedures, and pricing.

  • Complies with clinical protocols.

  • Complies with quality assurance, quality improvement and meets quality measurements.

  • Participates in chart reviews and staff education when appropriate and maintains continuing education requirements.

Policies and Procedures:

  • Works with administration to help assure that the management program operates within appropriate medical policies and procedures.

  • Gives feedback regarding treatment protocols.

  • Participates in community events and public relations when appropriate.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required

  • Master's degree and successful completion of accredited APRN program. Terminal degree in APRN field preferred.

  • National certification from the appropriate national certifying agency for the particular APRN.

  • Must maintain national certification.

  • Eligible at all times to be insured for professional liability.

  • Current valid and unrestricted license to practice as an APRN in the state(s) hired to work in by Baptist Health

  • BCLS required through the American Heart Association.

  • ACLS required for APRN

  • Certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).(Required for psychiatric APRN roles only)

  • ICU/CCE experience preferred

Skills and Abilities Required

  • Able to practice as an APRN and work directly with surgeons as needed

  • Excellent understanding of limits and appropriate supervision

  • Ability to collaborate with other departments

  • Assist surgeons in the office and operating room when necessary until all patients have been taken care of

  • Familiar with laws and state regulations related to advanced nursing practice

  • Desires to maintain high level of quality of care

  • Promote application of research to clinical setting

Physical Requirements

  • Strength – Position requires ability to occasionally lift objects less than _20_ lbs. and/or push/pull carts in excess of 20 lbs.

  • Manual Dexterity – Position requires incumbent to constantly perform moderately difficult manipulative skills such as keyboarding, etc.

  • Coordination – Position requires incumbent to frequently perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as keyboard skills, running computers, etc.

  • Mobility – Position requires incumbent to frequently move from department to department, building to building, and to sit for prolonged periods of time.

  • Visual Discrimination – Position requires incumbent to discriminate colors, as in reading colors of electrical wires or warning lights and see both near both far away.

  • Hearing – Position requires incumbent to hear normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering the telephone.

Mental Requirements

  • Concentration – Position requires incumbent to frequently concentrate on fine detail with some interruption.

  • Attention Span – Position requires incumbent to frequently attend to a task/function for longer than 60 minutes at a time.

  • Conceptualization – Position requires the ability to frequently able to understand and relate to the theories behind several related concepts.

  • Memory – Position requires incumbent to constantly remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others over long periods of time.

  • Communication – Position requires incumbent to constantly communicate verbally using advanced level vocabulary and communicate in writing, using advanced written skills.

  • Clerical perception needed to prevent errors in proofreading prescription labels and other work performed by others.
