Job Description
The pipe shop mechanic performs a variety of skilled mechanical duties involving general fitting piping systems on vessels, burning/ brazing, testing and sketching piping systems. The mechanic operates equipment for assembly and installation: performs preventive and predictive maintenance on facility machinery: records work performed and follows specified safety policies and procedures.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Must be able to read and interpret blue prints,

Must have basic trade hand tools and be proficient in their use.

Must have the ability to identify piping by size, schedule and material type.

Must be proficient in the the fit up requirements for the following joint designs: P3, P-14, P-15, P-68, P-71, and P-3B including calculation of diametrical clearances, end gap, and root openings.

Must be able to target an existing pipe spool and repair/ replace. Must be able to lay out and conduct pipe bending offsets.

Must have a thorough understanding of blanking and isolation requirements of piping systems.

Must have a thorough understanding of piping system testing (hydrostatic, air, compressed gas)

Must be able to safely operate the following equipment: vertical band saw, vertical drill press, bench grinder, hydraulic pipe bender, pipe threading machine, oxy/ gas braze and burning torch, plasma cutter.

Must be able to certify in the silver braze process.

Must be able calculate and understand units of measurement, including fractions and decimals, using tape measurer, and scale.

Must be able to obtain and maintain Defense Biometric Identification System "DBIDS" Badge and access.
