Mayor Cory A. Booker Spurs Local Economic Growth Launching Newark Jobs Connect Website

Newark, NJ – March 1, 2012 – Addressing the persistent, long term unemployment issue in Newark, Mayor Cory A. Booker is leveling the playing field for his constituents ranging from the 16-24 year-old generation of disconnected youth to Veterans and those who continue to struggle to find work. Newark Jobs Connect, powered by TweetMyJobs, will act as the perfect complement to the job creation initiatives already being implemented by the City, NewarkWORKS (the City’s workforce development agency) and Brick City Development Corporation. The website is the connective thread that will distribute more than 35,000 available jobs across the digital landscape and match seekers with employers. The announcement was made today by Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker and Mr. Robin D. Richards, Chairman & CEO of TweetMyJobs.

“By adopting the TweetMyJobs platform, the City of Newark is providing local employers of all sizes with no-cost access to the same cutting edge recruitment tools that the Fortune 500 are using today,” said Mayor Cory A. Booker. “Residents of Newark will directly benefit by hearing about available jobs before anyone else and Newark employers will be able to reach qualified, local candidates fast and first.”

“Job creation starts locally and Mayor Booker is leading the charge to help Newark citizens get back to work whether they’re in need of entry level jobs or seeking executive management positions. His proactive approach, desire to adopt the latest recruitment technology and his foresight in leveraging mobile and social media is highly commendable,” said Mr. Richards.

““In Newark’s Groundbreaking Year, dozens of construction projects are under way, representing more than $800 million in new development and over 2 million square-feet of new or renovated space. This investment will produce over 1,000 units of housing and create over 2,500 construction jobs and 2,500 permanent jobs. In the face of a global downturn, Mayor Booker has led the City of Newark into the biggest economic boom the city has seen in decades,” said Adam Zipkin, deputy Mayor for Economic and Housing Development.

This technology is revolutionizing recruitment by delivering to job seekers relevant job listings instantly, directly and via whatever medium they prefer – be it Facebook, Twitter, email or mobile – and taking advantage of the social graph to enable job referrals and introductions. Employers using the platform gain the opportunity, at no cost, to recruit socially, thereby reaping the competitive advantage of reaching more qualified candidates faster.

“Newark Jobs Connect will give us a variety of communication channels, including mobile devices, to help us reach a broader range of job seekers directly. It is critical for us to bridge the digital divide and match those job seekers with open positions in our city. The Platform allows us to do just that,” said Nelida Valentin, Executive Director, Newark Workforce Investment Board.

In addition, Newark Jobs Connect will deliver robust analytics to city officials. This data will provide government leaders with hyper-local insights that can help steer key strategic decisions to foster future job growth and enhance relations among the government, employers and citizens.
